The Burger Bar will fulfill a personal goal of providing West Olympia, with a dining experience not like any another place to eat. Though diner-style food is the product, the emphasis will be on going above and beyond the normal restaurant in proving a Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten-Free dining experience while still providing Carnivorous classics in a Green and Sustainable fashion. Our guests will feel that no matter their dietary habits, they deserve to treat themselves to something other than salad and rice when dinning out.
Why We do this
Michael Phillips, owner and operator of The Burger Bar, graduated The Evergreen State College in Olympia. While in attendance, he noticed that despite their claims, the company that provided food for the campus, as well as the cooks in the on campus eatery, were noy really friendly to alternative diets. Vegetarian and Vegan meal options were cooked on the same grill as Carnivorous meals, and there was close to nothing available for those who could not or would not ingest gluten.
This was a problem, and Michael set out to fix it. He wanted to create a place for people to eat. And he wanted the price to rival any place that students could eat on campus. It didn’t bother him that Olympia had such a high population of people with alternate diets. He made up his mind and set to work, and in early 2012 opened The Burger Bar.
